Tank bred by local hobbiest, David.

Laetacara: from the Latin laetus, meaning ‘happy’, and acará, a vernacular term used for cichlids in certain parts of South America, in reference to patterning around the mouth and snout which give members of this genus a ‘smiling’ appearance.

fulvipinnis: from the Latin fulvus, meaning ‘reddish-yellow, tawny’, and pinna, meaning ‘fin’, in reference to the colour of the anal and caudal fins.

Very hardy and easy to care for.

A cichlid that is rarely seen in the USA. It reaches a max lenght of 4 inches, sports a peaceful demeanor. The Laetacara is still a semi-agressive fish but can still do well in a community aquarium.

These fish are very aware on what is happening outside the tank and will take a while before they warm up to you. They thrive best in small groups and having other dither fish such as guppies, platys, corydoras, or other fish swimming around will make them feel more comfortable exploring the aquarium.

The Laetacara Fulvipinnis is very easy to feed and will eat flakes, pellets, frozen and live food. They require tropical fish temperatures and thrive best in slightly acidic water but these tank bred cichlids are more adaptable to water parameters.

They are currently house in an aquarium with 7.4 PH and a temperature of 78 degrees.

Current size 1-2 inches
