With their slender bodies and iridescent scales, Indian Rice Fish exude understated elegance. Their coloration ranges from silver to golden hues, often accented by subtle hints of blue or green, creating a shimmering effect under aquarium lighting. Despite their small size, their graceful movements and intricate finnage make them a captivating sight to behold.

Behavior:

Indian Rice Fish are renowned for their peaceful nature, making them excellent community tank residents. They exhibit a gentle disposition, rarely engaging in aggressive behavior towards tank mates. Their sociable nature shines in groups, where they display playful interactions and form tight-knit schools, adding vitality to any aquarium setting.

Habitat and Care:

Creating a suitable environment for Indian Rice Fish is simple and rewarding. A well-planted aquarium with ample swimming space and gentle water flow mimics their natural habitat, providing them with both security and stimulation. Maintain a temperature range of 68-78°F (20-26°C) and a pH level between 6.5-7.5 to ensure their optimal health and vitality. Routine water changes and proper filtration help maintain water quality, ensuring a thriving ecosystem for these graceful fish.

Compatibility:

Indian Rice Fish are peaceful companions suitable for a wide range of community aquariums. They coexist harmoniously with other small, non-aggressive species such as tetras, rasboras, gouramis, and peaceful bottom dwellers. Avoid housing them with larger or more aggressive fish that may intimidate or outcompete them for resources.

Breeding:

Breeding Indian Rice Fish is relatively straightforward in a well-maintained aquarium. Provide them with ample hiding places such as dense vegetation or spawning mops to encourage spawning behavior. Once a pair forms a bond, the female will lay eggs, which the male fertilizes and guards. With favorable conditions, the eggs hatch within a few days, and the fry can be raised on a diet of infusoria, baby brine shrimp, or finely crushed flakes.
